We do not have a minimum score requirement, however, current resident USMLE Step 1 scores average 240 and USMLE Step 2 scores average 250.

  • There is no minimum USMLE score requirement.
  • Previous clinical training in the United States is not required.
  • There is no minimum time requirement between graduation from medical school and application for residency.

Resident Eligibility and Selection

Selection criteria are consistent with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) General Requirements and Duke University Human Resources policies on Equal Employment Opportunity and Hiring Guidelines.

Duke University's Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program receives more than 800 ERAS applications each year for nine available positions. A team of faculty reviews applicant documents and grants interviews based on ability, aptitude, academic record, and personal qualities such as motivation, ethical standards, and integrity. The Residency Program does not discriminate with regard to race, color, religion, national origin, handicap, veteran status, sexual orientation or preference, sex or age (except where sex and age are bona fide occupational qualifications).

Applicants selected for interview will be notified by e-mail and given an opportunity to choose one of the designated interview dates via Thalamus GME, an online scheduling service.

Selective Service System Registration

All male applicants (as determined by gender assigned at birth for purposes of this requirement) who are U.S. citizens or immigrants must have registered with the Selective Service System within 30 days of their 18th birthday, or arrival date into the USA. Individuals are eligible to register until the age of 26. Failure to register is a violation of federal law, and can face significant penalties, including loss of eligibility for citizenship for immigrants.  Individuals who have not registered are not eligible for a variety of benefits including federal student aid, federal job training, and any job in the Executive Branch of the government (e.g. VA, Medicare, federal prisons), and are not allowed to work in federal facilities even as a resident or fellow.

Most Duke GME programs require rotations at federal facilities such as VA hospitals or prisons.  All trainees in those programs must be eligible to work at those facilities. All applicants should ensure that they have registered for the Selective Service System if appropriate. If they have not registered, they should discuss this with their potential program director. Additional details can be found at https://www.sss.gov.

Interview Dates

Applicants selected for interview will be notified by email and given an opportunity to choose one of the designated interview dates via Thalamus GME, an online scheduling service.

The Duke Ob/Gyn residency program is committed to virtual interviews for all applicants for the entire recruiting cycle in accordance with recommendations from the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO).
