OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY
Clinical Clerkship
OBG 205C – 61 and 62
The purpose of this course is to serve as an introduction to the delivery of comprehensive medical care and counseling services to adult and adolescent female patients. The obstetrical conditions and gynecological problems that are commonly encountered by the physician provide the primary focus of this clerkship experience.
General Clerkship Goals:
(a) To provide an introduction to the core material in obstetrics and gynecology.
(b) To prepare students for successful completion of the relevant portions of medical licensing exams.
(c) To provide a clinical experience that will build both medical and surgical clinical skills.
(d) To provide a clinical experience on which to make career decisions.
(e) To identify the challenges (research opportunities) in the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology for the student.
The OBG 205C clinical clerkship provides the student with a basic knowledge of obstetrical and gynecological conditions that is necessary for good practice in any medical field and useful in the student’s career goal decisions. This is provided through a combination of didactic sessions and clinical exposure. This combined approach engenders some inconvenience and complexity in scheduling, but is felt to be the best method for attaining these goals.
