Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery

 

Educational Goals

The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery Fellowship’s primary goal is to train and develop pelvic surgeon/scientists, who pursue productive academic careers and become preeminent clinicians. During the three-year fellowship, a physician gains knowledge, skills and judgment to be able to:
  1. Evaluate, diagnose and treat: complex pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, other pathologies requiring reconstruction.
  2. Evaluate and manage infectious and noninfectious irritative conditions of the lower urinary tract and pelvic floor.
  3. Evaluate and manage patients with voiding dysfunction.
  4. Understand the technical and interpretative aspects of urodynamics, electrophysiologic and radiologic testing.
  5. Participate in outpatient clinics.
  6. Acquire preoperative evaluation experience in assessment and planning therapy.
  7. Acquire surgical skills for complex pelvic organ prolapse, urinary and fecal incontinence.
  8. Routinely conduct resident teaching.
  9. Complete at least two graduate level statistical courses for credit as specified by the ABOG requirements.
  10. Gain understanding of the methodologies for scientific investigation.
  11. Design a research project, statistically test and critically interpret the results in a thesis paper.
  12. Complete research and have at least 5 articles for publication in peer review journals.
  13. Co-author solicited manuscripts and book chapters.
  14. Present at national urologic and gynecologic meetings.
