Fellowship Years
Year 1 Consists of:
- 8 Month Rotation in Urogynecology
- 2 Month Rotation in Urology
- 2 Month Rotation in Researh including 2 mandatory statistics classes
The rotation in urology focuses on didactic and clinical training in a multidisciplinary clinic established between Urogynecology and Female Urology, which provides experience in a tertiary urologic outpatient clinic, video urodynamics and the urologic operating room. Faculty include Dr. Cindy Amundsen, Director of the Fellowship Program and Dr. George Webster, an internationally recognized urologist and reconstructive surgeon in female medicine.
Year 2 Consists of:
- 5 Month Rotation in Urogynecology
- 7 Month Rotation in Research
During the second year more time is allotted for research projects, submitting grants and developing a thesis. In addition, fellows pursuing an advanced degree option of a master of health sciences in clinical research will have this oppurtunity.
Year 3 Consists of:

2 Months Rotation in Colorectal and Neurology

1 Month Rotation in Physical Therapy

6 Month Rotation in Urogynecology

3 Month Rotation in Research
Year three includes Colorectal Surgery with Dr. Christopher Mantyh and Dr. Julie Thatcher involving surgery in outpatient clinics, training in the colo-rectal-anal physiology laboratory and the operating room. The rotation in neurology provides didactic and clinical training in the Neurology Eletromyography laboratory with Dr. Vern Jud, an expert in electromyography. The rotation in physical therapy with Carol Figuers, EdD focuses on therapeutic techniques for urinary incontinence, pelvic/vaginal pain and defecatory disorders.
- In addition the fellow will complete independent research projects and thesis.
During the entire fellowship teaching responsibilities include:

Ob-Gyn residents and medical students on the inpatient ward and in outpatient clinics.

Surgical aspect of urogynecology and pelvic reconstructive surgery taught in the operating room, in an endoscopic dry lab, and cadaveric sessions and videotapes. For cases not requiring specific urogynecologic skills, the fellow serves as a teaching physician for resident staff.
