MANAGEMENT GUIDELINE
 
 
 
Subject:      Influenza Vaccine
 
 
Screening/Diagnosis:
 
Any patient who wishes to reduce the chance of acquiring influenza infection.
 
All pregnant and postpartum women should be encouraged to receive the influenza vaccine regardless of trimester.
 
 
Recommendations:
 
1.               Administer influenza vaccine IM as prescribed.
 
 
2.               In times of vaccine shortage, administer to patients with other risk factors (such as asthma or diabetes, etc.) first.
 
3.               Vaccine can be safely administrated at any time during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
 
Tdap Vaccine
 
Screening/Diagnosis:
 
All postpartum women who have not had a tetanus (Td0 vaccine with-in the last 2 years should be encouraged to receive Tdap vaccine.  The Tdap vaccine is a 1-time replacement of Td vaccine such that the next Td vaccine is due 10 years from Tdap administration.
 
Recommendations:
 
Administer during postpartum visit if not received after delivery prior to discharge from hospital labor and delivery.
