The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is part of Duke University Health System with the 1100-bed Duke Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital. Duke University Medical Center houses some unique training opportunities in: The Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Duke/US Surgical Endosurgical Center, and the Inpatient and Ambulatory Surgical Center. Out-patient clinics include the Duke Women's Health Associates, Durham OB-Gyn, PA and Harris & Smith OB-Gyn, PA. Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, NC is also part of Duke's residency education program.
 
Duke Hospital is located on the beautiful campus of Duke University. The University itself has a long tradition of high academic standards. It has an enrollment of approximately 6,000 undergraduates and 4,000 graduate students. The Medical Center is situated on the North Campus next to the 7,700-acre Duke Forest and employs 14,000.
 
The University setting is in Durham, North Carolina, the fourth largest city in the state with over 200,000 residents. It is part of the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area known as the Triangle, widely considered the main cultural, educational, and governmental center between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta, Georgia. Within the Triangle is Research Triangle Park, a 5,400 acre research complex closely linked with the local Universities. The population of the entire Triangle area is well over one million.
