Dr. Nicole Kerner obtained undergraduate and medical degrees at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  She graduated with honors and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in her third year.

Dr. Kerner completed residency at Abington Memorial Hospital in Abington, PA. She chose this program based on the extremely large volume of both obstetrics and gynecology cases, with the knowledge that the Chairman at the time, Dr. Joel Polin, was also the President of the Residency Review Committee. During residency, she authored 2 chapters in a board review book "Obstetrics and Gynecology Pearls of Wisdom" on the topics of Prolactin Disorders and Embryology of the Genital Tract.  Dr. Kerner was  given the award "Special Excellence in Endoscopic Procedures" and elected into the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists as a Chief Resident.

After residency, she joined the faculty at Winthrop Univeristy Hospital where I was awarded "Outstanding Attending of the Year" in 2002. She left Winthrop to join the faculty at Albany Medical Center the following year as my family relocated to upstate NY. She subsequently joined a private practice closer to home, and maintained a teaching position at Albany Medical Center.

Dr. Kerner joined the generalist faculty at Women and Infants Hospital at Brown University in Providence, RI following her time at Albany.  She again received a teaching award from the department "Teacher of the Year" award presented by Warren Alpert School of Medicine, Brown University.

After her husband completed his medical training, they both accepted private practice positions in North Carolina. While she enjoyed caring for patients in this new setting, she missed academia, most especially working with residents. It was at this time, approximately a year and a half after relocating, that she accepted her current position at Duke University Medical Center in June of 2010.
