Dr. William W. Hurd is Professor and Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Duke University Medical Center, and Clinical Director of the Duke Fertility Center.  His practice encompasses both reproductive endocrinology and general gynecology, with special emphasis on reproductive surgery, infertility, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, leiomyomas and recurrent pregnancy loss.

Dr. Hurd has been actively involved in basic, clinical and translational research throughout his academic career.  For more than two decades, he maintained a funded laboratory and is a recognized expert in the physiology and molecular biology of uterine smooth muscle and leiomyomas. His primary clinical research focus is gynecologic surgical anatomy, techniques and safety and infertility practice.  

He has also been involved in a number of clinical trials examining hormonal therapy. He has authored over 200 articles and chapters, and is the co-editor with Dr. Tommaso Falcone of the textbook entitled Clinical Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, 2nd addition, published by Springer. Since 2013, he has been Associate Editor for Gynecology for Obstetrics & Gynecology, the official journal of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
