Donald T. Moore, MD, Endowed Lecture — Community Event
2026 Donald T. Moore, MD, Endowed Lecture
Wednesday, April 29, 2026 from 7:30 am. to 9:30 a.m., Duke South Amphitheater
Registration required to attend by Zoom
The Donald T. Moore, MD, Endowed Lecture honors the legacy of the esteemed physician, educator and community leader whose leadership shaped Duke Ob/Gyn and the broader Durham community. Following the evolving desegregation of Duke Hospital, Dr. Moore became the first African American Fellow in the School of Medicine, served as chief of Ob/Gyn at Lincoln Hospital, and trained generations of Duke residents, medical students and nurses.
In that spirit, Duke Ob/Gyn is honored to welcome Omisade Burney-Scott as this year’s featured lecturer. She will be joined by Julian Wilson, and together they will lead an interactive session grounded in storytelling and small-group dialogue exploring reproductive care from menarche to menopause.
This lecture is voluntary and open to all. The purpose of this lecture series is to educate our campus community and share new and different perspectives. The views and opinions expressed by the speakers are solely those of the speakers.
Speakers
Omisade Burney-Scott is a seventh-generation North Carolinian, Black Southern feminist, storyteller, and reproductive justice advocate. She is the founder and chief menopause steward of The Black Girl’s Guide to Surviving Menopause (BGG2SM), a multidisciplinary narrative and culture-shift Reproductive Justice project focused on normalizing menopause by centering the stories of Black women, LGBTQIA+ individuals, formerly incarcerated and system-impacted people, and other marginalized groups within the Global Majority. Over the past 30 years, Omisade has been deeply involved in social justice movements seeking to liberate marginalized communities.
Julian Wilson is a Durham artist, multimedia journalist and organizer who has been honing their skills as a professional image maker for over a decade. Their work examines what materializes behind closed doors and in the shadows, both personal and communal. Since obtaining a master’s in visual communication from the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina in 2023, Wilson has focused on organizing with and sharing the stories of transgender people impacted by North Carolina's carceral system.
