Department Presents Hammond Research Day 2025

On May 9, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology presented Charles B. Hammond, MD, Research Day. This engaging day honors the legacy of Dr. Hammond, an internationally recognized leader, educator, researcher and advocate for women’s health. 

At this year's event, seven residents and seven fellows presented their research, representing the culmination of months of thoughtful inquiry, hard work and personal and professional growth.

Featured lecturer and distinguished judge was Catherine S. Bradley, MD, MSCE, of the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. Dr. Bradley presented "How to Get Your Research Published in 2025."

Distinguished judges were:

  • Brandi L. Vasquez, MD, PhD, generalist ob/gyn, Women's Healthcare Associates, Portland, Oregon, and current F. Bayard Carter Society president. Dr. Vasquez is a graduate of the Duke Ob/Gyn residency program (Class of 2008) and was the first graduate of the Duke global health obstetrics and gynecology fellowship program (Class of 2009)
     
  • Chad A. Grotegut, MD, MBA, professor, vice chair and section chief of maternal-fetal medicine; and program director of the maternal-fetal medicine fellowship, Wake Forest University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr Grotegut is an alumnus of the Duke Ob/Gyn residency program (Class of 2003) and the maternal-fetal medicine fellowship program (Class of 2009).

Hammond Research Day is a time to celebrate and honor our academic mission, as well as trainees for their achievements in research and dedication to impacting the future of women’s health. The historical day also included a poster gallery displaying the research of third-year medical students and PhD candidates working with Duke Ob/Gyn faculty members

Resident Lillian Dubiel, MD (left) was the recipient of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) award for the highest score, and resident Shakira Harding, MD, MS (right) was the recipient of the CREOG certificate of achievement for the most improved score.
