Education Awards Presented

On June 3, trainees and educators were recognized for exceptional teaching and support of learners in the department with the following awards:

  • Outstanding Intern Student Teaching Award: Angela Rutkowski, MD
  • Outstanding Resident Student Teaching Award: Hannah Kelly, MD
  • Outstanding Fellow Student Teaching Award: Katherine Fitch, MD
  • Outstanding APP Student Teaching Award: Margareta Montoya, MSN, WHNP-BC
  • APGO Excellence in Medical Student Teaching Award: Amber Jarvis, MD

Additionally, the 2025-26 Appleseed Resident Teaching Award recipients were honored.

Alex Norton, MD; MPHElana Brotkin, MD, MPHSpoorthi Kamepalli, MD; and Kelby Hunt, MD, MPH were recognized for outstanding performance as educators and mentors and were selected by a vote by Duke medical students “because they not only exceeded expectations of medical pedagogy, but have shown genuine passion for training the next generation of doctors…” 

The Appleseed Resident Teaching Award was created by Duke medical students in an effort to recognize, support and reward exceptional teaching and mentoring by house staff.
