Education Awards Presented
On June 3, trainees and educators were recognized for exceptional teaching and support of learners in the department with the following awards:

- Outstanding Resident Student Teaching Award: Hannah Kelly, MD
- Outstanding Fellow Student Teaching Award: Katherine Fitch, MD
- Outstanding APP Student Teaching Award: Margareta Montoya, MSN, WHNP-BC
- APGO Excellence in Medical Student Teaching Award: Amber Jarvis, MD
Appleseed Resident Teaching Awards
Alex Norton, MD; MPH; Elana Brotkin, MD, MPH; Spoorthi Kamepalli, MD; and Kelby Hunt, MD, MPH (pictured, left to right) were recognized for outstanding performance as educators and mentors and were selected by a vote by Duke medical students “because they not only exceeded expectations of medical pedagogy, but have shown genuine passion for training the next generation of doctors…”
The Appleseed Resident Teaching Award was created by Duke medical students in an effort to recognize, support and reward exceptional teaching and mentoring by house staff.
Trainees Complete Duke Graduate Medical Education MELT Program
Residents Edith Amponsah, MD, MPH; Tara Markert, MD; and Hannah Kelly, MD; and urogynecology and reconstructive pelvic surgery fellow Elizabeth Howell, MD, have successfully completed the Duke GME Medical Education Leadership Track (MELT) program. MELT provides comprehensive training in clinical teaching and medical education scholarship. The curriculum includes 13 interactive workshops, led by Duke experts, fostering collaboration among participants from diverse specialties.
GME Safety Advocate Award
Resident Lillian Dubiel, MD, was honored with the Duke Graduate Medical Education (GME) Safety Advocate Award for her impact on patient care.
Residents Honored with Top Cord Blood Awards
Congratulations to residents Jaxon Olsen, MD; and Jessie Li-Barton, MD (pictured, left to right), for recognition by the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank (CCBB) for their outstanding efforts. The mission of the CCBB is to build a large, high quality and publicly available inventory of cord blood units to improve the chance of patients finding an adequate donor for transplantation.
