The Department of Ob/Gyn is pleased to announce the appointment of Rachel Wood, MD, as the medical director for the Duke Birthing Center at Duke University Hospital. She has served as interim medical director of the DBC since January 2025.
Dr. Wood is an assistant professor in the Department of Ob/Gyn, and a maternal-fetal medicine physician with a particular interest and expertise in health equity and quality initiatives. She received her medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine and completed her residency and fellowship training at Brigham and Women's Hospital with Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Wood will continue to work in this role with Estela DiFranco Field, MSN, CNM, DBC associate medical director; Jennifer Mehdiratta, MD, MPH, interim medical director for anesthesia; Sophie Shaikh, MD, IBCLC, MPH, medical director for the newborn nursery; and nursing leaders in a collaborative leadership model to provide the highest quality care for all patients receiving pregnancy care at the DBC.
