Why did you choose Duke for your residency training?
I knew after my interview day that training at Duke would provide me with excellent clinical training in an incredibly supportive environment, and would challenge me to become a better physician and a better person. Opportunities to learn from midwives, care for a diverse patient population, and engage in advocacy were important to me, and Duke is a wonderful fit in each of these areas. I also knew that Durham would be a wonderful place for my family to be during my training, and we have loved it so far!
What excites you about the residency program at Duke Ob/Gyn?
I couldn't be more excited about the people I will get to work with, care for, and learn from during my time in this program. My co-interns immediately felt like family, and the rest of the OB/GYN residency and department has been so supportive and welcoming. Learning from the diverse population of patients who seek care at Duke is a true privilege.
What are your career goals?
I went into medicine out of a desire to advocate and provide quality care for women in vulnerable and marginalized communities. As I start residency, I am planning to be a generalist OB/GYN with a focus on refugee and migrant health, both within the United States and internationally. I hope to work to improve reproductive healthcare for individuals who have been forcibly displaced from their home, as well as for other vulnerable populations, and I'm interested in using both medical and public health backgrounds to do so.
Describe your research interests/goals:
Strengthening maternal care delivery in humanitarian settings, improving access to reproductive healthcare and quality of care for refugees, asylum seekers, and other marginalized populations in the United States.
What are your hobbies?
Anything outdoors! I love biking around Durham, exploring local hikes, and hanging out on the front porch with my husband and son.
