Group celebrating at Ovarian Cancer Walk 2022
Funds raised are used to support ovarian cancer research at Duke University Medical Center. The main focus of the Gynecologic Oncology laboratory research group is molecular studies that aim to elucidate the etiology of ovarian cancer. Researchers believe that this fundamental knowledge is needed to facilitate advances in early diagnosis, treatment and prevention of ovarian cancer. The Division of Gynecologic Oncology has numerous active clinical trials that address new approaches to ovarian cancer treatment. The Cancer Center at Duke University was established with the passage by the US Congress of the National Cancer Act in 1971. The Duke Cancer Center was designated as a "comprehensive" cancer center by the National Cancer Institute in 1973.The Duke Cancer Institute (DCI) was established in 2010. It is a single entity that brings cancer care and research even closer together. By uniting hundreds of cancer physicians, researchers, educators, and staff across the medical center, medical school, and health system under a shared administrative structure, the DCI offers unprecedented opportunities for teamwork among the scientists in our labs and caregivers in our hospitals and clinics.
