Angeles Secord, MD, Elected, Appointed To Prestigious Leadership Roles

Angeles Secord, MD, has been elected to the American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Foundation Scholar Committee as Chair, and appointed to the NRG Oncology New Investigators Committee as Co-Chair.

“Both are fantastic opportunities to mentor the next generation of physician-scientists. I am so impressed with the new generation of Ob/Gyns, the breadth of their knowledge, and their innovative research ideas. Opening doors for them through AAOGF, NRG Oncology, and other avenues have the power to expand their horizons and improve women's health,” stated Secord.

NRG Oncology is a non-profit research organization formed to conduct oncologic clinical research and to broadly disseminate study results for informing clinical decision making and healthcare policy. It brings together the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP), the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), and the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG)—each recognized internationally as a research leader.

NRG Oncology embodies an impressive legacy in the conduct of multi-institutional phase II and phase III clinical trials and a history of undertaking phase I and translational biological studies imperative for oncologic research of the future.

The American Association of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (AAOG), was founded in 1888 and a related foundation (AAOGF) was incorporated in 1929 to support the mission AAOG. When the AAOG merged with the American Gynecologic Society (AGS) to form the American Gynecological and Obstetrical Society (AGOS), the AAOGF continued as the foundation related to the newly consolidated organization. The goals of the parent organizations were similar, being to enhance knowledge in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology, to encourage transmission of current knowledge, and the recruitment of academically talented individuals to the field. The resources of the Foundation have been enhanced significantly by donations from the members of AAOG and subsequently the members of AGOS. The Foundation has also been the beneficiary of generous bequests from the estates of Dr. James Kennedy in 1966, Dr. Walter Dannreuther in 1969, Dr. J. Bay Jacobs in 1989, Dr. Henry L Darner in 1996 and Dr. Donald Swartz in 2011.
