Duke Ob/Gyn residents are accustomed to happy surprises and the joy that often accompanies them. Last Saturday was no different, as Duke Ob/Gyn Resident Dr. Shelun Tsai and fiancé Dr. Michael Sun, a Resident in Duke Psychiatry’s program, commemorated what would have been their wedding day (postponed due to COVID-19) during an impromptu ceremony at Duke Birthing Center.
Outfitted in a festive paper gown designed by a colleague and donning a face mask as required by Duke Hospital amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Tsai exchanged vows via Zoom with Dr. Sun, joined by Duke Birthing Center staff and employees. Friends and family also viewed via Zoom from throughout the United States.
The couple’s plans for their originally scheduled wedding ceremony have been postponed until a later date, but their chosen day of April 11, 2020, will be a special one for them and their Duke wedding guests.
The "wedding" received media coverage on People.com and Good Morning America among others, and was featured throughout the country in other outlets, garnering over 28 million views in total.
