Cindy Amundsen, MD, and Fellow Whitney Hendrickson-Cahill, MD, were invited authors for the "Annual Update on Pelvic Floor Dysfunction" in the publication OBG Management, providing recommendations for treatment of fecal incontinence. For the past 12 years, the OBG Management Board of Editors and Editor-in-Chief have welcomed Dr. Amundsen to author the update for the PFD section. Each year, she and the second-year urogynecology Fellow select 3 to 4 important studies or new developments from the past year and review, add commentary and provide recommendations for practice. This year, Dr. Hendrickson-Cahill provided information and “take home points” from several well-designed trials that enrolled women with frequent nonneurogenic fecal incontinence. The article highlights fecal incontinence information on treatment with the novel vaginal bowel control device (Eclipse System; Pelvalon), biofeedback v. loperamide, and sacral neuromodulation.
