Alicia Friedman, MSN, RN, Receives Strength Hope and Caring Clinical Award

Congratulations to Alicia Friedman, MSN, RN, Health Center Administrator at Duke Women's Health Navaho, for receiving a Strength Hope and Caring Clinical Award on behalf of the Private Diagnostic Clinic. Alicia was presented with the award on April 23, 2019 by Dr. John Paat, MD, PDC Associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality, for her Code Lavender initiative. Code Lavender is an effort to support staff and identify when they are having a rough day. The program is also another way to help prevent fatigue and burnout.

"Lavender wrist bands with the words 'be kind' are available for staff to wear should they be dealing with a personal issue outside of work or a traumatic work situation. Wearing a lavender wristband is a visual cue to the clinic staff, providers and manager that the individual needs a little extra compassion that day," Alicia says. "Code Lavender initially started at North Hawaii Community Hospital. It was developed as a response intervention to emotionally stressful events and is available not just to staff but also to patients and their caregivers."
