Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist Andra James, MD, MPH, left, and anesthesiologist Melissa E. Bauer, DO, (Duke Birthing Center), were among the collaborators on the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) Interdisciplinary Consensus Statement on Neuraxial Procedures in Obstetric Patients with Thrombocytopenia. The consensus statement was developed to provide the best available evidence and serve as a clinical decision aid to inform risk-benefit discussions with patients and obstetricians, and to enable anesthesiologists to engage in effective shared decision making. It is endorsed by the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
