Maria Small, MD, MPH, has been appointed to the Duke University School of Medicine Anti-Racism and Equity Faculty Strategic Committee. The committee’s duty is to identify and prioritize the areas in which Duke as an institution can extinguish racism and promote equity in all of its forms at administrative, departmental, divisional and individual levels. This group will develop specific goals and metrics which foster accountability within the institution.
Numerous criteria went into the selection process, however, through their service, scholarship, and altruism, all have demonstrated care and respect for others, a passion and willingness to stand for equity, humility to listen and learn from others, and leadership to implement change and transformation, states the announcement by Kevin Thomas, MD and Ebony Boulware, MD.
