Haywood Brown, MD, was one of several Duke Health faculty members honored at a special dinner at the Washington Duke Inn on June 4, 2019. Dr. Brown traces his passion for equal opportunity for African Americans, women and the underserved to his challenging middle and high school years, when he was one of 12 African American students integrated into an all-white North Carolina school. The experience forever changed him, he notes in the emeriti video (link below) chronicling his early years, and his notable career.
He now serves as the University of South Florida System’s new vice president for diversity, inclusion & equal opportunity and Title IX administrator. Along with his USF System role, Dr. Brown also holds the position of associate dean for diversity at the Morsani College of Medicine and chief diversity officer for USF Health.
