Sarah Dotters-Katz, MD, MMHPE to serve as UME Director; Melody Baldwin, MD, MPH, as Assistant Director
Dr. Sarah Dotters-Katz will assume the role of Director of Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology beginning July 1. For the last 2 years, Dr. Dotters-Katz has done an exemplary job as Assistant Director of UME, supporting Dr. Elizabeth Livingston, who will be stepping down as Director of UME after serving in the role for over 16 years. Dr Dotters-Katz, Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, has already distinguished herself as an outstanding educator, winning multiple awards for teaching, including the American Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology (APGO) Excellence in Medical Student Teaching Award last year. She has a Master’s Degree in Health Professions Education from Eastern Virginia Medical College and has been inducted into the University of North Carolina’s Academy of Educators.
Assisting Dr. Dotters-Katz will be Dr. Melody Baldwin, who will assume the role of Assistant Director of UME for the Department. Dr. Baldwin is currently Assistant Professor of Ob/Gyn and an active member of Harris & Smith Ob/Gyn. Dr. Baldwin is a graduate of the ADVANCE-UP (Academic, Development, Advocacy, Networking, Coaching and Education for Underrepresented Populations) program and has distinguished herself for her enthusiasm for medical education. For two years, she has served as faculty in the School of Medicine’s Cultural Determinants of Health and Health Disparities course and oversees student education and development activities for the Department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
Together, Drs. Dotters-Katz and Baldwin will direct the medical, physician assistant and nurse-practitioner student clerkships in the Department.
